Irwin has e-Mail
Irwin's Got E-mail!!!
I just got an invitation from CorrLinks to sign up. Now I can
communicate directly with Irwin. This is so cool! And it will keep the
long distance cost down.
Irwin said he can have up to 100 people on his e-list. He has to enter
your email into a request, then you will get an invitation. Yes, your
communications are "subject to" eavesdropping by the prison personnel
but, I'll bite the bullet. I am just thrilled that we can communicate
more. Besides, Irwin needs you all to inspire him. Send me your email
addresses if you want to be added to his list and the next time he
calls, I will give them to him.
Did you know he's had 3 toes amputated since he's been incarcerated?
He always makes jokes about it. I hope he can get around okay.
He mentioned that he was suffering from writers block for the past few
days, so he's not writing much. He said all he wants to do is read
magazine articles right now. I asked if there were any magazines I
could send him in particular and he said he likes those political
magazines from Republic Magazine. http://www.RepublicMagazine.com (I
bought a bunch of them and mailed them out to some of our political
prisoners of war last year). Aaron Russo started that magazine just
before he died. Unfortunately, I can't afford to send them out like I
used to at this time though, so if you folks can afford it, for our
guys and gals that have been robbed of their freedom, you can get them
in bulk for a fair price and just mail them out to them. Rick Stanley
told me that his copy had been a favorite among his fellow inmates,
and it was loaned out so much that the edges were all curled. (that
was the Ron Paul issue). I haven't sent any out this year. So, if you
can get back issues, that would be great too. They are all good.
Here is a page with our friends mailing addresses.
http://irwinschiff.homestead.com/POWaddresses.html
One thing Irwin wanted me to mention was that he has been very
concerned about his old friend Russell Jay. He hasn't heard from him
in a long time. We have called his numbers, but they have been
disconnected. Does anyone know how to reach Russell Jay? He is the
same age as Irwin, so we are hoping he is still alive and well.
That's it for now.
Have fun!
Angela
THN note: You'll have to write to Cindy to have her put you on her email list. See the THN POWs page.
Irwin & Cindy engaged!
CINDY AND IRWIN ARE ENGAGED!
Irwin proposed, and Cindy accepted, in what must be one of the most
bizarre engagements ever: they had to communicate through a third
party (yr hmbl srvnt) because in the wisdom of government, they are
not allowed to write to each other.
Irwin said on the phone last week that it would be okay to tell you-
all, and today Cindy has written to give her permission too, so there
you are: SSCers are the first to know!
The marriage date has not been discussed, but I don't see how it can
precede next April, when Cindy should be outta there. Just how it will
go down even then, who can tell. Irwin is resolved to get out also,
but his amazing optimism hasn't yet overcome the dead hand of
government. But at least, as spouses (spice?) they should be allowed
letters, visits etc.
Visit the THN POWs page for their address so you can congratulate them.

Sending money to our POW's
Deposit Fund History
In 1930 the Department of Justice authorized and established a Commissary at each Federal institution. The Commissary was created to provide a bank type account for inmate monies and for the procurement of articles not regularly issued as part of the institution administration. The purpose of individual inmate Commissary accounts is to allow the Bureau of Prisons to maintain inmates' monies while they are incarcerated. Family, friends, or other sources may deposit funds into these accounts.
Funds may be sent to Federal inmates via the United States Postal Service or via the Western Union Quick Collect Program. In either case, the inmate must physically be housed at a Federal Bureau of Prisons' facility before funds can be received and posted. If the inmate is not physically in a Federal Bureau of Prisons' facility, the funds cannot be posted and will be returned or rejected.
U.S. Postal Service
Inmates' families and friends choosing to send inmates funds through the mail must send those funds to the following address and in accordance with the directions provided below:
- Federal Bureau of Prisons
Insert Valid Committed Inmate Name
Insert Inmate Eight Digit Register Number
Post Office Box 474701
Des Moines, Iowa 50947-0001
The deposit must be in the form of a money order made out to the inmate's full committed name and complete eight digit register number. Effective December 1, 2007, all non-postal money orders and non-government checks processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15 day hold. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that do not have valid inmate information to the sender provided the envelope has an adequate return address. Personal checks and cash cannot be accepted for deposit.
The sender's name and return address must appear on the upper left hand corner of the envelope to ensure that the funds can be returned to the sender in the event that they cannot be posted to the inmate's account. The deposit envelope must not contain any items intended for delivery to the inmate. The Bureau of Prisons shall dispose of all items included with the funds.
In the event funds have been mailed but have not been received in the inmate's account and adequate time has passed for mail service to Des Moines, Iowa, the sender must initiate a tracer with the entity who sold them the money order to resolve any issues.
Western Union Quick Collect Program
Inmates' families and friends may also send inmates funds through Western Union's Quick Collect Program. All funds sent via Western Union's Quick Collect will be posted to the inmate's account within two to four hours, when those funds are sent between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. EST (seven days per week, including holidays). Funds received after 9:00 pm EST will be posted by 7:00 am EST the following morning. Funds sent to an inmate through the Quick Collect Program may be sent via one of the following ways:
- 1) At an agent location with cash: The inmate's family or friends must complete a Quick Collect Form. Click here to view a sample Quick Collect Form. To find the nearest agent, they may call 1-800-325-6000 or go to www.westernunion.com.
- 2) By phone using a credit/debit card: The inmate's family or friends may simply call 1-800-634-3422 and press option 2.
For each Western Union Quick Collect transaction, the following information must be provided:
- 1) Valid Inmate Eight Digit Register Number (entered with no spaces or dashes and immediately followed by Inmate's Last Name)
2) Committed Inmate Full Name entered on Attention Line
3) Code City: FBOP, DC
Please note that the inmate's committed name and eight digit register number must be entered correctly. If the sender does not provide the correct information, the transaction cannot be completed. The Code City is always FBOP, DC.
Each transaction is accepted or rejected at the point of sale. The sender has the sole responsibility of sending the funds to the correct inmate. If an incorrect register number and/or name are used and accepted and posted to that inmate, funds may not be returned.
Any questions or concerns regarding Western Union transfers should be directed to Western Union by the sender (general public). Questions or concerns should not be directed to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
For additional information concerning inmate Commissary account deposit procedures, please see the Bureau of Prisons Trust Fund/Warehouse/Laundry Manual (PS 4500.04) or 28 CFR Parts 506 and 540. For information concerning a specific deposit, please contact Federal Bureau of Prisons' staff at 202-307-2712 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET.

'Twas The Night Before Tax Day
And all through the keep
Nobody was stressed, we were all sound asleep.
Our zero returns had been filed with care
Hoping our refund checks soon would be there.
The children were asleep, snug in there beds,
While symbols of liberty danced in there heads.
All of a sudden I heard glass shatter
I went downstairs to see what was the matter.
I walked 'round the corner and much to my surprise,
looking back at me was an IRS boogeybam with guilty, bloodshot eyes.
He was unkempt and his language was foul,
He smelled like he fell out of the low end of an owl.
"You didn't pay your fair share." he huffed and he snorted,
"I wasn't liable!" I accurately retorted.
"You rely on ignorance, intimidation, and fear,
I know the truth, you have no power here!
You lie, you steal, and you use fake names.
Who are you today Julie or James?
The courts go along with your crimes and misdeeds,
So that you won't harass them; their bad decisions multiply like weeds."
As he crept closer with an empty stare,
I thought about the law, about which he did not care.
In one fluid motion, I took out the code,
He now wanted out of my humble abode.
He panicked and shrieked like a girl,
Right then and there I nicknamed him Pearl.
"Show me the law!" I said, "Now's your chance!"
He sputtered and stammered, I think he peed in his pants.
Back out the window he went, his tail between his legs,
He was afraid of the law and its voluminous regs.
He scrambled to his getaway car which he had illegally seized,
He called out to his cohorts as he coughed and he wheezed,
On Leavitt! On Pro! On Dawson! On George!
We'll score a conviction with documents we will forge!
Into the darkness he did disappear.
In the future he'll think twice before coming back here.
A stress free tax day to all.
And to all an income tax free life.

An Illiegal Belief
against the law. There are even a few things you can SAY that are
illegal (e.g., threats, statements that constitute fraud, slander).
But I can only think of one thing that it's actually illegal to
THINK in this country--one thing that it's actually against the law
to BELIEVE, no matter what you do with that belief. And I happen to
believe it.
Various crimes include a "mens rea" component, meaning one's state
of mind is relevant to whether a crime occurred, but I'm not even
talking about that. I'm talking about a belief that, all by itself,
is impossible to have without breaking the law--or at least without
breaking what the tyrants say is the law. Sound absurd? Read on.
How would it even be possible to make any thought a crime? If the
person didn't DO anything based on his belief, or didn't even SAY
anything about it, how could it possibly be illegal to think
something? Well, it couldn't, which is why it takes a rather clever
trick to outlaw the thought of which I speak. Suppose that the
government really didn't want anyone to have a certain belief,
let's call it "Belief X." Writing a law that says, "It shall be
unlawful to Believe X" would look silly and would be impossible to
enforce. But what if instead, the government passed a law that said:
1) You are required to sign something, under penalty of perjury,
stating whether you believe "X" or not.
2) It is illegal to say that you believe "X."
3) It is illegal to DENY that you believe "X," if you really do
believe it.
Passing such a law would make it quite literally illegal to BELIEVE
"X," no matter what you did or said about it, since there is no way
for you to believe it WITHOUT breaking the law. Whether you admit
or deny your belief, either way you are a criminal (though if you
deny the belief, they may never know it). The only way to NOT break
the law is to not believe "X."
Again, if you think this discussion is absurd, keep reading.
Because as it happens, the federal government DID impose such a
law, making it ILLEGAL for me (and many thousands of others) to
believe what we believe. It is, quite literally, impossible for us
to hold this belief without breaking the law, at least the law as
the federal control freaks depict it. In other words, the BELIEF
ITSELF is illegal, no matter what we say or do about it. What's
worse, the belief happens to be CORRECT. As a result, I know
something true that it is a CRIME to know. Think I'm exaggerating?
---------------------------------
To over-simplify things a bit, I believe there are specific
sections of the federal tax statutes and regulations that describe
when domestic income is actually subject to the federal income tax
(mainly 26 CFR 1.861-1 and following). I further believe that those
sections do NOT show the income of most Americans, including
myself, to be subject to the tax. I therefore conclude that I don't
owe federal income taxes.
For the full explanation of what I believe, why I believe it, and
why lots and lots of other people believe it, you can order my
book, "Kicking the Dragon," at the following web site:
http://www.kickingthedragon.com
But for right now, it doesn't matter whether you agree with my
legal conclusions or not, or whether you even know what they are.
The point I want to make here is how profoundly insane it is for
there to be a law making it illegal to THINK or BELIEVE something.
Based on what I believe, I am automatically a criminal, no matter
what I do. Think I'm kidding? Try this:
If I believe I don't owe federal income taxes, what are my options?
1) I could say what I believe, and act accordingly, by not filing
income tax returns and not sending the IRS money. I did that, and
was sent to prison for it. So did lots of others, some of whom were
also sent to prison for it. Others have also been prosecuted for
filing claims for refund, asking for money back that they had sent
in before. In other words, they went to prison for saying, "I don't
think I owed you that." (The only reason the feds didn't do that to
me is because the statute of limitations ran out on the claims I
filed.)
2) On the other hand, I could pretend that I believe I owe the tax,
and I could file and pay. However, that too is ILLEGAL in my case.
Section 6065 of Title 26 makes it a crime to sign a return that you
don't believe is accurate. So if I signed return swearing that my
income is taxable, when I believe it isn't (and Judge Michael
Baylson coerced me into doing exactly that), I would be breaking
the law. Of course, if you overstate what you owe, they won't
prosecute you for it, but it's still technically illegal.
In short, there was NO WAY for me to think what I think without
breaking the law, at least as far as the feds are concerned. And
that means that, for all intents and purposes, THE BELIEF ITSELF is
illegal. I know that plenty of you have learned the hard way that,
despite the myth of "due process" and all that, in reality, if you
say you don't think you owe the tax, you will be insulted and
threatened, and possibly fined or prosecuted, until you say you
didn't really mean it. And then, if you say you didn't really mean
it, and you sign a return swearing that you owe the tax, you'll be
committing perjury. Ain't it great to live in the land of the free?
If there's one message that I hope makes it through loud and clear,
for anyone who reads my book, this is it: Whatever bunk you hear
about rule of law, due process, checks and balances, fairness and
justice, the truth of the matter is that the federal government is
funded the same way the Mafia is: by brute force. Actually, the
Mafia is preferable, because at least they don't try to deceive and
defraud you before sending in the stupid thugs to collect.
Sincerely,
Larken Rose
